Terms of Service

By creating an account or using Ledger, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

Ledger is a planning tool for self-published authors to track their book launch: story structure, tasks, a publishing roadmap, ARC reader outreach, and a mailing list for your readers. The core product is free to use, permanently, for anyone with an account, for a single book. Optional AI-assisted features (beat bridging, premise-to-outline and genre-tailored template generation, and AI-assisted research link search) are free for a limited number of uses.

• You need a valid email address to create an account, and you’re responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
• You’re responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for all activity under your account.
• You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction, to create an account.

A paid subscription, currently offered at $9.99/month or $99/year, removes the free-tier limit on AI-assisted features and the one-book limit on the free plan. Subscriptions renew automatically at the then-current price at the start of each new billing period. By subscribing, you authorize Ledger (via our payment processor, Stripe) to charge your payment method on that recurring basis until you cancel.

• You can cancel anytime via the billing portal link on the Upgrade page, in the same number of steps it took to subscribe. Cancellation stops future renewals; your subscription stays active through the end of the period you already paid for.
• Prices may change with at least 30 days’ notice by email; changes apply to future billing cycles, not one already in progress.
• We don’t store your card details; all payment information is handled directly by Stripe.

Subscription charges are generally non-refundable, including for partial billing periods when you cancel partway through. If you believe you were charged in error (for example, a duplicate charge or a billing issue on our end), contact us at ledger.app101@gmail.com within 14 days of the charge and we'll review it in good faith.

An approved refund is issued back to your original payment method and typically takes 5-10 business days to post, depending on your card issuer or bank, not on us. A refund only reverses that one charge; it doesn't cancel your subscription. To stop future renewals, cancel separately from the billing portal (see Section 4).

You own everything you create in Ledger: your book details, story structure, notes, tasks, and uploaded cover images. You grant us only the limited right to store and process that content so we can provide the service to you.

Some features involve information about other people, whether you enter it yourself or they submit it directly (for example, an ARC reader or mailing-list subscriber's name or email). You're responsible for having the right to collect and share that information with us for that purpose, and for how you use it afterward.

If you email your ARC readers or mailing list through Ledger, that email is on you to send lawfully: only message people who've actually agreed to hear from you, use a real subject line and sender identity, and honor unsubscribe requests promptly. Laws like the U.S. CAN-SPAM Act and, if you have subscribers outside the U.S., GDPR/CASL and similar rules elsewhere, apply to you as the sender, not to us.

When you use an AI-assisted feature (beat bridging, premise-to-outline or genre-tailored template generation, or research link search), the relevant text you submit is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a suggestion. The research search feature additionally runs live web searches on your behalf and returns real links it finds that way. AI output is a starting point, not a guarantee; review and edit anything it produces, and use your own judgment on any source it surfaces, before relying on it.

You agree not to:

• Use Ledger for anything illegal, or to store or generate content that infringes someone else’s rights.
• Attempt to circumvent usage limits (for example, the free AI generation limit) through automated means or multiple accounts.
• Attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the service.

You can stop using Ledger at any time, and can request full deletion of your account and its data by contacting us at ledger.app101@gmail.com. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

Ledger is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. We don't guarantee the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI-generated suggestions will be accurate. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Ledger isn't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll make a reasonable effort to notify you (for example, by email or an in-app notice) before they take effect.
